The Crew
TOM
I have always taken a particular interest in basketball in which I played at county level for Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire. My love of sports expanded to Snowboarding and Marathon walking for Charity. I completed several 40km walks for different charities through both the Air Training Corps and the Army Cadet Force which is where I grew a love for the military lifestyle. My longest charity walk was named the Caledonian Challenge which involved a 56 mile trek through the Scottish highlands.
From my first day at University I made a beeline for the Boat club stand at freshers fair. This was the start of a love affair where I progressed quickly to the mens eight 1st crew and onto the committee as mens vice captain. This led to fours years of rowing in several boats, coaching several crews and coxing as a last minute substitute (its rather difficult fitting 6 feet 2 inches into a cox’s seat).
After graduating and moving back home to London I was unable to carry on my training and competitions in a crew. Recently I have moved back to Cambridge and now I have started training again on the ergometer. This will soon move onto the water where I feel a lot more at home.
CHRIS
Born in Bromley Kent (8th April 1985) and grew up in and around the Medway towns, I was incredibly active from a young age competing at various levels in different sports including Karate and Kickboxing, competing regionally and nationally, by the time I was 15 I was teaching adults and relished the respect my achievements earned me. I put my mind to working as a lifeguard and studying hard to finish school, and going on to my complete surprise I passed all my exams and went on to do my A - Levels.
Whilst at University I fundraised for various charities up and down the country and eventually began working for Amnesty International which gave me an opportunity to see a vast amount of the British Isle I may otherwise never thought to visit.
After graduating I took a chance and embarked on the epic adventure of driving to greece, stopping at many place in Europe on the way that I’d not been before, I then spent some time on some of the Greek Islands.
